REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS
Paid Irrigation Internships, Summer 2023
(May – August 2023 ~ 12-weeks, up to 30 hours/week)
($20.00 – $22.00 per hour)
Three San Joaquin County Resource Conservation Districts, special districts dedicated to resource concerns in and around San Joaquin County, has an internship openings with an emphasis on irrigation system evaluations and technology to provide assistance with the implementation and reporting of resource conservation projects that the District and/or its partners undertake under contract with various agencies, organizations and individuals.
The ideal candidate will have an agricultural background and experience with, or knowledge of:
- Math Skills: water quantity computation and unit conversions
- Basic GIS or other mapping platform
- Quantity computations (measuring units of flow rate, volume & velocity)
- Knowledge of Irrigation systems with pumping stations
- Data collection and evaluation in spreadsheets
Interns will assist with field work inspections and work professionally and courteously as representatives of San Joaquin and East Stanislaus Resource Conservation Districts and CURES while interacting with private landowners and local, state, and federal entities and personnel. Qualified candidates must be able to communicate clearly and effective, both written and verbally, with customers and staff.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, are required. Must be able to complete a heavy work-load within deadlines. Transcripts may be requested, if applicable, if selected for interview to show math proficiency in related coursework.
A degree is not required for this position, but related course work is preferred. This position may allow for flexibility around college class schedules for enrolled students. Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
This position is flexible, part-time, temporary, as funding allows. Occasional weekends or evenings may be required with advance notice.
